
Towson, MD - After pulling out a thrilling 13-12 double overtime victory to reach the finals, the Northwestern Women’s Lacrosse team left nothing to chance on the big stage, defeating the University of North Carolina 21-7 to earn the squad’s fifth consecutive National Championship.
The Wildcats (23-0) had their undefeated season topped off with a five goal performance from senior Hilary Bowen, who just six weeks prior had torn the ACL in her left knee. Junior Katrina Dowd added four goals for Northwestern, giving her an NCAA record 22 goals in the tournament. Senior Hannah Nielsen chipped in with six assists in the finale, closing her career with the NCAA Division I assist record in a game, season, and career.
